How We Saved 100% on our Cable TV (actually Dish Network)!

YOU CAN DO IT TOO!  We are now saving $100 a month, which is what we were paying for Dish, and it’s really easy.  The key step is to get rid of it!

IF YOU PAY FOR SOMETHING, AND GET RID OF IT, YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT ANYMORE.  This works in most cases.  Unless you’re trapped in some horrible contract, you can call your cable provider, or dish provider, or satellite provider, or however you get 50 or 100 or 200 or 500 or 1000 channels of stuff and let them know that you don’t want it anymore.

WHEN YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL NO LONGER BE PAYING FOR IT.  Awesome, right?  The catch (there is always a catch, isn’t there?), is that you will no longer be able to look at all of those channels you used to watch.  That’s part of the deal.

WE DECIDED TO GET AN ANTENNA AND GO WITH REGULAR TV.  I know – this is the stone age approach.  We now get a handful of channels with very bad shows that don’t come in all that well anyway.  But it’s free.  We also have Netflix, and Hulu, and an Amazon Prime membership.  We watch some shows and movies on the You Tube TV channel which has some good documentaries.

IN ADDITION, WE ARE NOW PAYING $22 A MONTH FOR OUR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER.  It is with CenturyLink.   It was actually kind of a hassle to make the change with the billing process.  I had to call several times and check my account on-line over a two month period.  In addition, I had to visit one of those kiosks at a local mall (the guy that worked with me was helpful).  But I think they may have made a mistake on it.  It was somewhat confusing and I am not going to mention it to anyone since it is lower than their advertised rates and we are not locked into any contract.

DO YOU HAVE THE GUTS TO DO IT?  Will your life, as you know it, go on?  What will you do?  How will you fill the time?  Is it worth saving some money to give up watching all this stuff?  Good luck.  If you made this change, what happened?  How did you cope?
